World Habitat Day 2013
Saturday, 5 October, 2013 - 09:30 to Sunday, 6 October, 2013 - 01:00

Place: Maison des Associations, 15 rue des Savoises, CH 1205 Geneva

On the occasion of the World Habitat Day 2013, the Groupement des cooperatives d’habitation genevoise (GCHGorganizes in partnership with the association urbaMonde a day of conferences and round tables.

Considering civil society actors as producers of housing and public spaces is a well-documented issue. However, considering civil society actors as planning partners at a wider scale is a current challenging topic. This public event will offer the opportunity to highlight the subject, in particular the challenges facing local housing cooperatives by discussing their role in housing development and urban management. This event aims as well at creating cohesion between local cooperatives and enlarging their perspectives at a municipal and international scale.

Tow main themes will be discussed at the World Habitat Day 2013 in Geneva. The morning round table will debate the role of housing cooperatives in urban planning in the canton of Geneva: What should be their involvement? Starting whitch planning phase should they be involved? Concerning these issues, the cooperative  « Mehr als wohnen » from Zurich will share it’s experience and other housing stakeholders from Geneva will join the debate as well.

On the afternoon, the question of how to strengthen knowledge transfer and local cooperative’s housing model will be discussed. Ideas will be brought by the representatives of CLT in Belgium and BSHF's ongoing activities with FUCVAM in Uruguay.

Starting 9 am, a cooperative’s stand will offer the opportunity for housing actors in Geneva to present their activities. The day will end with an evening concert (8pm-1am) followed by a cooperative’s jam session at l’Écurie, 14 rue de Montbrillant.
