Workshop: the city in context

Thursday, 21 August, 2014 -
18:30 to 21:00

Place: Maison des Associations, salle Albert Jacquard

Context is the relationship between things. When the context is evacuated, it is also the interface between our physical environment and the social tissue that disappear. Context is then replaced by a 'generic' city that pretends to give access to 'modern confort' to all, but that denies at the same time diversity and the individual potential of each space.

How can inhabitants produce their own context? In this workshop, we will discuss the importance of recognizing the role of inhabitants and of contributing to their production of the city. The topic is closely linked to the social production of habitat, which provides a framework for understanding the similarities betwene different cities such as Geneva, Mumbai and Cairo.

The workshop will be conducted in French and English.
